Both teams found clear cut chances hard to come by with defenses on top and Bunclody changed things around when they brought on Ross Nolan & Christy Atkinson for Jason Somers and Barry Mernagh both of whom had put in great shifts with 30 minutes remaining. This gave Bunclody a greater cutting edge up front as Ross Nolan played off the last man superbly and gave the Ferns back line no time to settle and build from the back but it was Ferns who took the lead in the 85th minute when Bunclody lost the ball to easily in midfield and an unfortunate slip by Barty Byrne allowed the Ferns attacker in behind the defense and he scored inside goalkeeper Danny's near post to give Ferns the lead.
